The EU ambassadors agreed on the Union’s draft budget for the year 2020. With the EU Council’s formal acceptance, it will become the Finnish presidency’s mandate in the negotiations with the European Parliament. The key areas from the Polish standpoint, such as cohesion policy, rural development program and Erasmus Plus, are not affected by budget cuts.
On Tuesday, the ninth European Parliament was officially formed. It began its works with seven political groups.
EU member states are far from agreement on the cohesion policy spending under the bloc's next multi-annual budget. Poland's Investment and Development Minister Jerzy Kwiecinski expects that the EU will strike a deal on the matter in the second half of 2020.
The Council of Europe and the European Parliament should be strengthened, and the European Union should be more democratic, Polish President Andrzej Duda said during a meeting with residents of Ostrow Wielkopolski, western Poland, on Monday.
