Three university hospitals in Poznań received almost PLN 50 million, and 25 million went to eight district hospitals across the Greater Poland Voivodeship. Marshal Marek Woźniak has just signed funding agreements with the directors of these healthcare establishments under the 2014–2020 Greater Poland Regional Operational Programme.

The University Teaching Hospital in Poznań, the Heliodor Święcicki Gynaecology and Obstetrics Teaching Hospital of the Poznań University of Medical Sciences and the Wiktor Dega Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Teaching Hospital of the Poznań University of Medical Sciences – these Poznań hospitals will receive a total of nearly PLN 50 million in EU funding.

“These agreements are important because they will govern some key purchases that are particularly needed to face the post-pandemic challenges. We did all we could to secure as much funding as possible and put it into healthcare. The effort was a success. As a result, 28 hospitals across the Greater Poland Voivodeship will receive almost PLN 140 million in financial support. This support will go to hospitals managed by several different entities, including the University of Medical Sciences, the Voivodeship’s Regional Government and District Local Governments,” explained the Marshal of the Greater Poland Voivodeship. “It is critical that teaching hospitals receive such support, since only these establishments can provide state-of-the-art medical  expertise,” he added.

The largest portion of the funding went to the University Teaching Hospital in Poznań. With more than PLN 38 million available, the institution will be able to purchase medical equipment, as well as software to manage operating rooms and send images from medical devices to any monitor or screen. The hospital will soon be using some new equipment, including laparoscopy systems, X-ray machines and ultrasound scanners, as well as central monitoring systems, anaesthesia machines, intraoperative CT scanners, electrosurgical diathermy units, an operating table and anaesthetic beds.

The voivodeship’s authorities allocated PLN 8 million from the EU funding for the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Teaching Hospital in Poznań. Professor Zbigniew Krasiński, the University of Medical Sciences’ Pro-Vice-Chancellor, stressed that the Greater Poland region has set an example for the rest of the country on how to approach healthcare on a regional level. “The ownership structure of hospitals varies significantly. In our case, this was to the university’s disadvantage, which had always been centrally financed. However, Marshal Woźniak has proven time and again that health is apolitical,” he added.

District hospitals will use EU funding as well. The money will go to hospitals in Pleszew, Śrem, Słupca, Czarnków, Nowy Tomyśl, Szamotuły, Jarocin and Chodzież.
With more than PLN 9.1 million, the Pleszew Medical Centre will be the biggest district beneficiary. It will use the funds to buy state-of-the-art medical equipment. The purchase list includes several dozen items. These will equip, among others, the orthopaedic and anaesthetic wards, as well as the operating room and the X-ray laboratory.

According to estimations released by the Marshal’s Office, in recent years, Greater Poland’s hospitals received a total of PLN 670 million from the 2014–2020 Greater Poland Regional Operational Programme alone. The money that will now help these establishments grow became available through an extra allocation of funds for the “Investing in Health and Social Infrastructure” Measure.
