A total of 47 hectares undergoing revitalisation, nearly 2,000 people benefiting from social support – these are the effects of an integrated project completed by Czersk, located in the heart of the Tuchola Forest, with the support of European Funds. Infrastructure works, under the Pomorskie Province Regional Operational Programme 2014-2020, were funded by the ERDF, while social activities were covered by the ESF.
The revitalisation included the renovation of the railway station building and the use of part of it for social purposes. Structural elements of the building were renovated, new installations were established; new fittings appeared in the finished interiors. An area of 500 square metres of the building has been dedicated to a Day Care Centre for dependents, seniors, people with disabilities and families. The area surrounding the building was landscaped to create a patio.
The degraded municipal buildings on Transportowców Street and their surroundings have also undergone renovation. New pavements, car parks, a playground and an outdoor gym were added.
Another project executed as part of the city’s revitalisation was the construction of an all-access multipurpose pitch on Dworcowa Street. The fenced and lighting facility accommodated handball, basketball and volleyball courts and a tennis court.
The Reaktywacja Centre was launched within the framework of a social project. This unit, functioning within the structures of the Social Services Centre in Czersk, includes a day care centre for dependent people and a day support facility for children and young people and their parents. The centre hosts workshops and meetings with specialists. It offers rehabilitation and nursing care for seniors, parenting workshops to support upbringing and workshops for carers of dependent people on “The family facing disability”.
The value of the infrastructural project as part of integrated urban revitalisation amounted to nearly PLN 5.8 million, of which EU funding exceeded PLN 3.7 million. The social part of the project consumed nearly PLN 1.6 million, with the European Social Fund supporting these activities with PLN 1.5 million.
